The ZAC Foundation Announces Megan Ferraro as New Executive Director

[Greenwich, Conn. (March 6)] – The ZAC Foundation, a national leader in water safety and drowning awareness, today announced Megan Ferraro as its new Executive Director.

The ZAC Foundation was started by Karen and Brian Cohn in 2008 following the drowning of their 6-year-old son Zachary Archer Cohn after his arm became trapped by the powerful suction of the drain in the family’s backyard pool. The Foundation honors Zachary’s life and legacy by bringing critical life-saving lessons of water safety to children and families across the country.

As Executive Director of the Foundation, Ms. Ferraro will direct strategic planning, public policy, fundraising and day-to-day operations. Additionally, she will oversee all national partnerships with organizations including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the American Red Cross, among others; organize ZAC Camps across the country; and continue to grow the organization to spread water safety awareness nationwide.

“Megan brings more than a decade of policy, communications and grassroots organization experience which makes her uniquely qualified to lead The ZAC Foundation as it continues to educate children and families on the importance of water safety. We are thrilled to welcome Megan to the team as Executive Director as we continue to pursue our mission of making all children and families water safe,” said ZAC Foundation co-founder Karen Cohn.

Commenting on her new role, Ms. Ferraro said, “The ZAC Foundation not only changes lives but saves lives through its water safety and drowning prevention programming aimed at children, parents, caregivers and community leaders. The ZAC Foundation’s commitment to providing opportunities in communities across the country, especially in areas most affected by drownings, to learn essential swimming and safety skills is unmatched. I am honored to join this fantastic organization and continuing the important work of advancing water safety.”

Prior to joining The ZAC Foundation, Ms. Ferraro served a Senior Vice President of Grassroots Outreach at Nahigian Strategies, a DC-based public relations and communications firm. During her tenure, Ms. Ferraro oversaw the strategy and implementation of the firm’s campaign and grassroots initiatives. In addition, Ms. Ferraro led numerous national non-profit organizations’ messaging and marketing campaigns that helped achieve clients’ strategic goals and brings a wealth of experience in water safety programming and education to the Foundation.

The ZAC Foundation has taught more than 10,000 children and their families the importance of water safety through its award-winning ZAC Camp program and partnerships with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the American Red Cross.
