Megan Ferraro Shares Fourth of July Water Safety Tips on NBC Washington
As families prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July on the water, Megan Ferraro, Executive Director of The ZAC Foundation, joined NBC Washington to share practical tips that can help prevent drowning and keep holiday celebrations safe.
Water Safety Tips for Fourth of July Pools, Lakes, and Beaches
The Fourth of July is one of the busiest weekends of the year for pools, lakes, rivers, and beaches. Ferraro emphasized that while spending time in and around the water is a favorite holiday tradition, it also requires planning and constant attention.
She encouraged families to designate a responsible adult to actively supervise children whenever they are in or near the water. Supervision should be focused, avoid distractions like conversations, phones, or books.
Ferraro also reminded viewers that properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets are essential when boating or participating in water activities for all ages.
The ZAC Foundation encourages families to think of water safety as multiple layers of protection. No single precaution is enough on its own, but together they help reduce the risk of drowning.
