ABC 3 Features The ZAC Foundation’s Advocacy in Major Pool Recall

A backyard pool or vacation rental may seem like a great place to unwind—but when you’re not familiar The ZAC Foundation’s Executive Director Megan Ferraro was featured on Hartford, Connecticut’s ABC 3 following the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall of more than 5.2 million above-ground pools due to serious drowning hazards.

Speaking about the dangerous compression straps that have led to multiple child drownings, Megan explained: “Children were able to step up onto that little strap that created almost a ledge, and then those children could fall into the pool.”

The ZAC Foundation had been advocating for this exact safety change, having contacted the American Society for Testing and Materials about this issue over a year ago.

“We’re pleased that the CPSC has done its job and is working with manufacturers to keep consumers safer in America.”

Megan also used the platform to remind parents to stay vigilant: “Many people do not understand how quickly and how silently a drowning can happen. And as parents, we love our children. We’re doing everything we can to protect them, and we have a false sense of security about what water safety looks like.”

Watch Megan’s full interview on ABC 3 for more information about this important safety recall and drowning prevention.
