Greenwich Magazine Spotlights The ZAC Foundation’s Life-Saving Legacy

Greenwich Magazine chronicles The ZAC Foundation’s powerful story of transformation, highlighting how Karen and Brian Cohn turned unimaginable grief into a nationwide mission to prevent child drowning.

The Story Behind the Mission

“Zachary’s memory is the inspiration for everything we do at the foundation. I work for him,” Karen shares in the piece. After losing their six-year-old son Zachary to pool drain entrapment in July 2007, the Cohns created The ZAC Foundation just one year later.

“We knew if we could just keep one child from drowning and one parent from going through what we did, we will have done our job,” Karen explains.

Nationwide Impact

The feature showcases how The ZAC Foundation has evolved beyond individual programs to create lasting change at the community level. From helping develop state water safety coalitions in California, New Jersey, and beyond, to playing a key role in creating the U.S. National Water Safety Action Plan, the foundation is building the infrastructure needed to prevent drowning nationwide.
